「ベンチャー企業」とは、本来の意味では「新技術や高度な知識を軸に、大企業では実施しにくい創造的・革新的な経営を展開する中小企業」のことを指すが、日本のベンチャー企業を自称する会社の多くは、新技術や高度な知識を持っているわけではなく、単に「会社が小さい」ことをもって「ベンチャー企業」を名乗っている場合が多い。
